Developing Leadership and Culture at ALS
The development of leadership and a positive culture is seen as paramount for all the companies in the Campbell Brothers Group. In ALS this is illustrated by the implementation of the following programs that drive excellence in leadership from the ground up.

Learning Environment Overview
Executive Level: Executive Profiling Campaign
In order to equip our current executives with the leadership skills they need to grow the business, mentor staff and provide excellent outcomes for ALS, the Executive Profiling Campaign (EPC) initiated. EPC is a two year program of assessment, learning and career development activities.

This comprehensive global program, builds skills across a range of executive competencies as well as providing ALS with a succession planning mechanism. It ensures that almost 100% of promotions are from within our organization.

Middle Management Level: Business Leaders
Future Leaders (Bright people with a few years experience) are identified via our performance management program to build their skills in management through a range of programs. Examples are company sponsored academic qualifications, mentoring, six monthly career reviews, in house management modules and stretch assignments. Participants may also be provided with extra circular projects that work to build their skills.

Current mid level leaders are provided with support to maintain and update their skills via some of the above approaches, supported to provide technical papers and conference presentations and to be mentors for less experienced personnel. A key value generated from this group is leadership in the optimization of laboratory processes and innovations in performing both new and established tests more efficiently.

Again almost 100% of promotions are from within our organization.

Core Skills Development

Open to all staff, these Competency Development programs are based on local, divisional and client requirements and are designed and administered locally.

Examples of programs include the Coal Divisions LabSkills competency development program and internal training on our LIMS tools, robotic innovations as well as general skills training on updates to analytical methodology, tools and techniques.

The key goal of these programs is to develop technical skills appropriate to all laboratory and support staff and to build the right foundations for staff who wish to pursue a career in laboratory management.
