Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I)
We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where the experiences, backgrounds and perspectives of our employees are valued and respected. Our intent is to reflect the diverse communities in which we operate, empowering employees to thrive and reach their full potential.
Our DE&I vision is to build and promote a diverse workforce committed to sustaining an equitable and inclusive environment, and empowering all employees to reach their full potential, live our core values and feel a sense of belonging.
Our Global DE&I Council brings together senior leaders from different backgrounds, locations and teams to guide action on our DE&I strategy and advocate inclusive practices and leadership.
To embed behaviours and language that reflect our core values and support a one ALS culture. Embracing an inclusive culture across the organization enables us to create a greater sense of belonging for all. Colleagues participate in unconscious bias training upon joining ALS, and inclusive leadership principles are embedded in our leadership programs. We have developed Inclusive Leadership training for all ALS team members, which will be launched in 2025.
To achieve greater gender equality for all and increase the representation of women in leadership. RISE is our Global Gender Employee Resource Group (ERG), which has our Executive General Manager (Commodity Inspection) and General Manager (APAC Life Sciences) as their Executive Sponsors. Our Global RISE ERG aims to advance gender equality, celebrate diversity days of significance, and actively advocate for greater diversity, equity and inclusion at ALS. In 2024, we launched our Lean In pilot initiative, which is a female group mentoring program. This initiative will be rolled out more broadly in 2025.
To enhance awareness and support for colleagues living with disability (both physical and non-apparent). Our disability inclusion efforts include promoting awareness and support for mental health and psychosocial wellbeing. Colleagues are encouraged to complete a ‘Disability Fundamentals’ training module to raise awareness and advance disability inclusion efforts at ALS. We have also proudly signed up to the Valuable 500, which is an external organization with over 500 global partners and companies that are committed to working together to end disability exclusion.
To provide a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for our LGBTQ+ colleagues, BESIDE is our Global LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group (ERG), which has our Chief Information Officer as its Executive Sponsor. BESIDE ERG aims to foster an empowered and inclusive community, advocate for LGBTQ+ equality and promote active allyship. Colleagues are encouraged to complete a ‘Foundations of LGBTQ+ Inclusion’ training module, and we have facilitated sessions on ‘Pronouns’ and ‘Trans and Gender Diverse Identities.’ We are also a member of Pride in Diversity, a leading external LGBTQ+ organization, to help inform and progress our LGBTQ+ inclusion efforts.
As ALS operates in over 65 countries around the world, we recognize that each region in which we operate is unique and we tailor our DE&I priorities where possible. Regional areas of focus include First Nations, Culture and Heritage. We will also be establishing a DE&I regional champions network, which will consist of individuals who coordinate and promote activities for diversity days of significance that are specific to that country and/or region.
